Firstly produced in 2001, this Japan-made car was known as Mitsubishi Airtrek in its first years.
The name Airtrek was to describe its ability to transport people on adventure-packed. It was successfully replace the Mitsubishi Montero Sport on which it first arrived in 2003 in North America.
Designed by Olivier Boulay, the second generation of Mitsubishi Outlander was appeared in 2005, and all markets including Japan officially used the Outlander name, though the older version was still produced. One of its unique features was something called a “Flap-Fold Tailgate”, two-piece tailgate which were integrated into the rear bumper that folds down for easy loading. It kept produced until the next 7 years, until the third generation came in 2012.
This current version was unveiled at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show event and use 2.0L I4 and 2.2L Diesel I4 engine which can give more power and more efficiency in fuel usage yet still emits less CO2 then the version in advance.
Features of this new Mitsubishi Outlander has also been updated, for instance: Mitsubishi MIVEC clean diesel engine, distinctive Jet Fighter grille, new interior environment, on demand all wheel drive, optional twin clutch sports shift transmission (TC-SST), emergency stop signal system (ESS), HID Xenon headlamps, 710 watt Rockford Fosgate audio system and music server, HDD satellite navigation system, reversing camera, and many more.
In Japan, this Outlander had become the best-selling SUV Mitsubishi had from October 2005 to March 2006, while in US market it could be successfully sold until 1.694 units in November 2006 and 2.108 units in the following month. Mitsubishi still hoped to sell at least 4.000 units in US since it became the only MPV which is able to carry seven passengers with all wheel drive after Mitsubishi Grandis in model year 2011 was cancelled.Cat : Mitsubishi,
