2013 Lexus IS
Boasting impressive performance and superior sport-car handling, the 2013 Lexus IS is an appealing choice for a high-performance luxury sport sedan. For its 2013 generation, the Lexus IS received only minor upgrades in its interior, focusing more on its sweeping performance and precision. With the standard IS250 and the sportier choice of IS350, the IS remains a competitive player in the tight luxury sports car sedan race.
Driving the 2013 Lexus IS for the first time will immediately give the impression that it’s no ordinary Lexus. The standard 2.5-liter V6 engine runs at 204 horsepower and 185 lb-ft of torque, while the 3.5-liter V6 engine produces 306 horsepower and 277 lb-ft of torque.
It also has an F Sports package—the IS F 5.0-liter V8 engine is bursting with strength and precision, producing 416 horsepower and 371 lb-feet of torque in an eight-speed automatic transmission. From 0 to 60 mph in a brisk 4.7 seconds, this luxury sports car sedan again proves its mettle and capability. Its handling and performance is no less superior, with its stiff suspension that take on twisty roads short of a supercar.
The previous Lexus IS F generation took its interior design and comfort quite seriously and for its 2013, it continues its top-notch interior features. With strategically placed controls and refined materials, the interior of the Lexus IS F gets everything right. Although the headroom and the legroom for the second row is quite lacking, it is still considerably wider than most sports cars in its category. Notably spacious is the luggage area, which provides 13.3 cubic feet of luggage.
For its exterior, the 2013 Lexus IS F is no less commanding: it features wide fenders, flared bump with a wider mouth, a domed hood, small trunk lid spoiler, and 19-inch alloy wheels.
The standard features of the base model should be more than sufficient: 19-inch alloy wheels, sports-tuned suspension, LED daytime running lights, keyless ignition, dual-zone automatic climate control, and an optional 7-inch navigation system. The Lexus Enform 2.0 smartphone app can also integrate several apps in your smartphone. Audiophiles would surely love the 14-speaker Mark Levinson surround-sound audio system, that comes with the purchase of the navigation system.
The 2013 Lexus IS F doesn’t compromise in its safety features, taking safety on the road to a whole new level. It comes with antilock brakes, traction and stability control, front side airbags, full-length side curtain airbags, front knee airbags. Buyers also get a one-year free subscription to Safety Connect, which provides important updates on collision notification, an SOS emergency help button, and a stolen vehicle recovery option. There is also a pre-collision system with an optional adaptive radar cruise control.
It has received a commendable “Good” rating for side impact and front protection by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. For roof strength testing, it got an “Acceptable” rating, which is pretty good for a luxury sports car sedan.
The pricing for the 2013 IS 250 starts at $36,000 with the IS 350 around $41,000. The high-performance IS F is priced at around $62,500.
