2013 BMW M5
The M5 is a slice of class in automobile shopping. It’s a high performance midsize sedan with four doors. But that’s not all. According to Playboy, “the M5 is the standard-bearer for asphalt-devouring, full-size sport sedans, a machine that can chariot you to the office in a style worthy of your Yurman watch and then outclass just about anything on the track on Sunday” (http://www.playboy.com/playground/view/cars-of-the-year-2013). Named by Playboy as the “Slickest Hot Sedan for 2013”, this isn’t your typical sedan.
With a 4.2 second one to sixty mph capability, this car moves. Its twin-turbo 4.4 liter V8 engine with 560 hp and 501 lb per foot torque comes together with a seven speed, dual clutch auto manual transition with paddle shifters. It is also available in North America with a six speed manual transmission (no cost option).
Launched at the 2012 New York Auto Show, the M5 is priced at $90,695 for the standard package. It comes standard with 19 inch with alloy wheels, adaptive suspension dampers and traditional hydraulically assisted power steering. It has adaptive xenon headlights, front and real parking sensors, sunroof, dual zone climate controls, power tilt and telescope steering, navigation system, voice commands, rearview camera and a 12 speaker surround sound stereo system. It seems to be generally agreed by people who have test driven the M5 that the steering is more communicative and precise than electronic power steering (EPS) in other vehicles.
This luxury sedan has a buttery leather interior with 41.4” leg room in the front and 36.1” leg room in the back seat. Besides the heated seat for driver and front passenger, the system holds in detail the memorized height, power lumbar, tilt and thigh support for alternative drivers. This car was made for comfort.
Its anti-theft protection includes interior monitoring and anti-lift protection. There are driver and passenger forward and side impact airbags, and curtain overhead airbags both front and back. Besides the usual warning lights, there is low tire pressure and brake pad wear warning. As well, the M5 has a 4 wheel antilock brake system (ABS) and the door’s have a self-closing feature.
The M5 offers two optional packages. The “Driver Assistance” package includes lane-departure and blind spot warning, and side and top view cameras. The ‘Executive’ package includes keyless access and startup, heated steering wheel, ventilated and massaging functions for the front seats, heated rear seats, satellite radio and smartphone application integration. There are also some additional options including a rear seat entertainment system, 12 speaker Bang & Olufsen surround sound system, pedestrian detection night vision camera system, 20 inch wheels and carbon ceramic brakes.
