2013 Aston Martin Rapide
For the producer of some of the best and most iconic sports cars in the world, Aston Martin got a few heads turning when it announced that it will release an ultra-luxury sedan. The last time Aston Martin produced a sedan in its 100-year history is somewhere between 1961 and 1964, under its Lagonda badge. With the release of the 2013 Aston Martin Rapide, all doubts have been cleared and the luxury sedan segment just earned another formidable competitor.
The 2013 Aston Martin Rapide is powered by a 5.9-liter engine that produces 470 horsepower and 443 lb-feet of torque that revs up to 60mph in less than give seconds—the same one found in the DB9 and the Volante. With its six-speed Touchtronic 2 automatic transmission system, the driver can change gears manually and simultaneously through its steering column-mounted magnesium paddles.
A four-door luxury sedan can easily look disproportionate and out of place, but not the 2013 Aston Martin Rapide. With its extended roofline that goes all the way back to the tailgate and down to the rear bumper, the 2013 Rapide looks like a sports car—easily the best-looking four-door sedan in the luxury sedan car segment. Clearly capitalizing on its strengths, the exterior styling has some sports car elements, including upper and lower grillers and smoked rear taillights.
In its interior, the Aston Martin Rapide continues its winning streak, with its upscale and luxurious cabin. For one, the door swings up and down, giving it even more of a sports car appeal. The seats are trimmed with leather, as well its console and door panels. Complementing its leather trim is the low-gloss wood layering that adorns the upper portions of the center control panel.
One unique feature of the Rapide is its lack of a gear shift lever. Instead there are four buttons just below the heating vents marked P, R, N, and D which stand for Park, Reverse, Neutral, and Drive respectively. The ignition key slot is right in the middle of these.
Both the front and rear seats are snug and comfortable, with ample legroom space. The front seats have a variety of adjustment options, while the rear seats can be treated a deluxe entertainment system with two TV screens at the back of the front seats. The luggage space is a generous 11.2 cubic feet with the removable rear seats giving it a total of 31.3 cubic feet.
Aston Martin remains committed to topnotch tech and safety features, with Bridge of Weir leather, a Hard Disk Drive Satellite navigation system, Band Olufsen BeoSound Audio system, Bluetooth connectivity, and satellite radio as some of its features.
For its safety equipment, a full list of airbags are included, along with front and rear parking sensors, electronic stability control, traction control, and emergency brake assist.
The prices for the 2013 Rapide start at $199,950, with optional equipment such as a wireless headphones and remote control ($3,395), exterior paint contemporary ($750, alarm upgrade ($295) and other features that can hike up the price to as much as $220,000.Cat : Aston Martin,
